AS YOU CONSIDER REOPENING, LET’S TALK.
Let Dowling help make your work environment as safe as possible as you prepare to let employees back through the doors.
We at Dowling Corporation are here to help protect the ongoing safety, wellbeing, and overall health of each and every one of you.
While we continue to implement CDC best practices and guidelines, we want to share a little insight about some HVAC “best practices” to consider as you look to manage your current environment and prepare for what may lie ahead. These practices, along with the efforts of each individual, can reduce the chance of spreading problemetic airborne pathogens (from COVID-19 and beyond).

If outside air isn’t being filtered in through other means, your HVAC system should and can provide fresh air specifically catered to the size/use of the space. Said HVAC system should include a sensor for carbon dioxide and other such pollutants to calculate the amount of outside (fresh) air ventilation needed. Let’s talk about what is possible to impove the ventilation in your space.
UV emitted from lamps installed in your HVAC system (when and where applicable) is unfiltered and far more lethal to microbes than actual sunlight is. Often unchecked, a thin biofilm measuring just a few thousandths of an inch on a cooling coil can reduce your HVAC system’s efficiency by 30% to 50% — as well as cause unpleasant HVAC odors.
This alone makes UV light installation well worth consideration for maintaining the efficiency and cleanliness of an HVAC system, and thus, the air around your immediate surroundings.
Filters are rated on their ability to capture and retain particles of different sizes.
The industry standard that we utilize here at Dowling Corp is a Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) rating. While we utilize a minimum MERV >8 air filter in almost every application we service, filters with MERV >13 have a significant ability to capture particulate matter and smaller particles. It’s worth a mention that, especially in today’s climate, HEPA filters are even more efficient in the capture of bacteria and viruses.
Clean Refrigeration Coils
This falls hand-in-hand with the UV light install mentioned above. Your system is only as good as the cleanliness of your coils. While this is a practice frequently performed during routine maintenance services, it would be prudent to consider an additional cleaning to your indoor air systems. Dowling Corp has provided our technicians with a coil cleaning agent fit to eradicate bacterial buildup and potential viral threats. If your coils aren’t clean, the air moving around the environment is greatly jeopardized as well.
This is a start. We’ve got plenty of other strategic ideas if you’d like to have an open conversation about what we can do to help. The name of the game is safety. Providing clean, breathable air is, quite simply, one of the easiest and most important ways to begin optimal environmental safety – especially as we open our doors following this era of quarantine. In the end, if the air we breathe isn’t safe, nothing else really matters, does it?
